We have a top-of-the-line water treatment plan. In it, water from the wet part of the process is processed. The treatment plant has a primary stage. It is an anaerobic, facultative, and wastewater ponds system. It’s coated with a plastic membrane to avoid water filtration to the groundwater layer in the subsoil.
The company’s goal is to be a pioneer in cleaning water in coffee processes. This will allow the process to reuse water in hopes of accomplishing the most demanding parameters in the BOD and QOD indexes.
Coffee pulp is used to make organic compost. During this process we use 30% of the water from the coffee processes’ wet stage. Pulp and Compost
The subproducts are mixed through a special compost machine. Mixing happens several times a week in order to guarantee water and carbon dioxide aeration and liberation.
The water that comes from coffee processing is poured into compost beds and helps compost rehydration. It also adds bacteria and enzymes that benefit the decaying process.
To enrich the compost, natural products coming from the farm´s activities are added also to the compost beds such as wooden sticks, leaves, wood chippings, and tree trimmings.
Once the compost has reached the stage where it can be used as organic fertilizer it is applied to the coffee trees.
Subproduct transformation and use, ensure that our operation recycles and reutilizes waste products in an environmentally friendly and healthy way, thus closing the whole coffee production cycle.
